In this page we describe some of the more complicated screenings and certifications we offer.
Screening for Diabetic Retinopathy
We recommend that all people aged 12 and over with diabetes (type 1 and 2) have annual screening tests.
Colour-blindness Testing
Some more advanced levels of colour blindness, such as deuteranopia, can be difficult to detect and requires the skill of a highly experienced optician to spot. Our optometrists at Eyelevel Opticians can cover the full range of colour vision and colour blindness screening during your regular check-up (or as a separate appointment).
Glaucoma Screening
Early detection is key in protecting your vision from damage caused by glaucoma. It is important to examine your eyes every 2 years before the age of 40, with increasing regularity post 40.
Glaucoma check-ups include tonometry and ophthalmoscopy. A more comprehensive Glaucoma exam consists of Tonometry, Ophthalmoscopy (dilated eye exam), Perimetry (visual field test) Gonioscopy and Pachymetry.
Cataract Screening
Eyelevel Opticians offers a comprehensive screening exam for the detection of Cataracts. This includes:
- The standard Visual acuity test, measuring your sight at various distances.
- The slit lamp exam using a specialized microscope to magnify the eye.
- Tonometry – another standard test to measure fluid pressures inside the eye
- And a Dilated eye exam, which allows for better examination of the lens and the back of the eye.
